What Makes a Battery Green?

So many products we have taken for granted over the years have become more environmentally friendly. One such example is that more and more responsible business owners who previously used packing peanuts to ship their products have switched from the environmentally unfriendly Styrofoam to the very environmentally friendly packing peanuts that are made from corn and dissolve completely in water and add nothing to landfills.

Batteries are a part of everyday life for nearly everyone. If you use a digital camera, remote control, think of your children's toys, flashlights and more; you use batteries. What you may not have known is that regular batteries are big contributors to pollution and are definitely not in the realm of products that could be considered "green" or environmentally friendly.

Many people use single use batteries and then discard them not knowing that the heavy metals these batteries are made from, leach out of the landfills and back into our water and/or food chain. Many of which are serious health hazards. The rechargable batteries that we carry are considered "green" and come in two general types. The batteries are either Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) or Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), and these are considered environmentally friendly materials and as more and more people switch to "green" rechargeable batteries it will begin to make a significant positive impact since over 15 billion batteries are purchased every year.

More and more people are getting converted to using green batteries and as certain electronics like CD players and digital cameras use up the alkaline batteries quickly, using rechargeable batteries in these items pays off quickly as you won't be purchasing batteries over and over, you'll simply be recharging them.

If you've been getting educated about the products you use to become greener in your day-to-day living, think about making the switch to green batteries from traditional alkaline batteries. Check out our greenbatteries brand NiMH batteries, they are excellent quality, and certainly the best value - and they are actually green in color!
